故事 The Story
This year 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan travelled to 4 countries. They were 中国 China, 新加坡 Singapore, 斯里兰卡 Sri Lanka, and 泰国 Thailand.
In 中国 China, he visited 桂林 Guilin and the 重庆 Chongqing.
桂林 Guilin is famed for its mountains and the 漓江 Lijiang (Li River).
杨丕源 Yang Piyuan went cycling in the 遇龙河生态公园 Yulong River Ecological Park.
The photo above shows a simple 石板桥 stone slab bridge spanning the 遇龙河 Yulong River near Xingping Ancient Town.
The photo below shows a single 单孔石拱桥 stone arch bridge.
Having landed in 重庆 Chongqing, he went southeast to the 武隆 Wulong Karst Landscape the following day. The two rivers he encountered on this trip was the 乌江 Wujiang and Furong 芙蓉江.
The 重庆武隆岩溶国家地质公园 Chongqing Wulong Karst National Geopark is located here in the lower reaches of the 乌江 Wujiang River, a tributary of the 长江 Changjiang / Yangtze River.
An interesting snack he ate was made of glutinuous rice, called 桂林艾叶粑粑 Guili Ai Leaf Baba.
In 武隆 Wulong, he visited 天生三桥 The Three Natural Bridges, walked in the 龙水峡地缝 Longshui Gorge fissure .
He would then visit the World Heritage Site of 大足 Dazu.
He crossed the 长江 Yangtze River
This was the year the novel "The Sympathizer" by Viet Thanh Nguyen was published. Having visited Vietnam and fascinated by the history of the nation during the American war and occupation, he bought a copy of it. On page 10 of the book, he learned that "The truth, in this case, was that at least a million people were working or had worked for the Americans in one capacity or another,..."
