In 2019 CE, 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan visited 中国 China four times.
He landed
重庆 Chongqing泉州 Quanzhou上海 Shanghai成都 Chengdu.In 重庆 Chongqing he visited the 重庆美术馆 Chonqing Art Museum.
From 重庆 Chongqing, he took a train to the 武陵山脉 Wuling Mountains of 贵州 Guizhou to climb the 梵净山 Fanjing Shan Mountain. On his fast speed ride there, he was fascinated by the tall gigantic pylons. These were supporting structures of an upcoming elevated rail track.
A year before his visit, 梵净山 Fanjing Shan was inscribed on the World Heritage List. Quoting https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1559, 梵净山 Fanjing Shan is "an island of metamorphic rock in a sea of karst". The geographic formation and its isolation has resulted in an abundance of life. Among the many interesting life-forms is the Guizhou Snub-nosed monkey.

This year the book "Trees of Southeast Asia" was published and 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan acquired a copy.
He would collect three other books about Botany - one in Chinese (see 2023 CE) and two in Malay.
In this particular book, 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan was educated as to why vernacular names for plants could be complicated. According to the author, for the same plant species, its name could be different depending on the local or regional language. That goes for other scientific names - such as the elements of the periodic table. The symbol for the element is universal but the name isn't.
