杨丕源 Yang Piyuan graduated this year with a Bachelor of Applied Science with a major in Computer Science and Technology. It was a course that exposed him to both the hardware and software and the computer.
The year that saw him get his first job with a company based in the United States was also the year that sites in China got listed on the 世界遗产 World Heritage Site.
A new chapter for 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan also marked the end of another. His paternal grandmother, 王玉蕊 Wang Yurui, passed away this year.
Penang Hill
One of the ways he celebrated this momentous year was to climb the Penang Hill. The song "Climb Every Mountain" from the musical The Sound of Music (see _____ CE) played in his mind as he ascended the hill of historical significance. It was the first hill among the many that he would climb throughout his life. However, it was not the first hill that he went up to. That hill was Cameron Highlands on which he went up by his father's bettle-shaped Volks Wagen.
Penang Hill was a popular colonial retreat and unlike the other hill stations built by the British in Malaya, this one was installed with a furnicular train. Riding the train up to the peak was, and still is, a popular tourist activity.
