Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region (marked E) is China's highest
and one of its most sparsely populated regions, with an average
elevation exceeding 4,000 meters (13,000 ft) — earning it the name
"Roof of the World" .
It shares over 4,000 km of international borders with four
countries and is the source of major Asian rivers including the
Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra), Mekong, and Salween . Culturally
and spiritually centered on Lhasa and the Potala Palace, Tibet
offers unparalleled high-altitude landscapes, ancient monasteries,
and unique Tibetan Buddhist heritage.
