青海 Qinghai (No 16) is a high-altitude, landlocked province on the
northeastern 青藏高原 Tibetan Plateau, with an average elevation over
3,000 meters (9,800 ft) . It is the source of three of Asia's
greatest rivers — the 长江 Yangtze, 黄河 Yellow, and 澜沧江 Lancang River
/ Mekong — and home to 青海湖 Qinghai Lake (中国最大的内陆咸水湖), China's
largest inland saltwater lake . The province is culturally
diverse, with significant 藏族 Tibetan, 回族 Hui, 蒙古族 Mongol, and 撒拉族
Salar communities, and serves as a gateway to the remote and
sacred regions of 安多 Amdo Xizang.
