故事 The Story
Yang Piyuan was born in the year the country 马来西亚 Malaysia came into being. According to the 十二生肖 Chinese zodiac signs, this was the Year of the 兔 Rabbit. The rabbit is the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac and is considered one of the luckiest. Put it another way, the 兔 rabbit is a symbol of luck, longevity, fertility.
In Chinese Mythology, the Jade Rabbit is a celestial being that accompanies Chang'e in the Moon Palace. Thus, it is associated with the Moon and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
1963 was not the Rabbit of the Gold or Metal element. It was not the Earth, Wood or Fire elemental year. Yang Piyuan was born in the Year of the Water Rabbit. He would one day come to love swimming and enjoy holding breaths underwater for long periods of time. That would be how his story would come to an end.
According to his birth certificate, he was born in the District Hospital of Teluk Anson at 2.55pm. His father was then a clerk. The occupation of the Father had to be filled in the document but there was no requirement for his age. His mother was 25 years of age. That had to be filled, but there was no part in the document requesting for her occupation. There was a line under the printed words: "Mother's Usual Place of Residence". And the person-in-charge had written 219, Chouldry Rd, Teluk Anson, Perak.
There was a Vaccination Notice on the back page of the document. Yang Piyuan's father was given notice to have his son vaccinated within 6 months from the date of birth. In default of his doing so, he would be liable to a penalty of 25 dollars. Today, the currency Ringgit is used.

China had since become a republic a little over half a century ago. In other words, it had been 52 years since the last Emperor, Puyi 爱新觉罗·溥仪, abdicated his throne.

1963CE was the year that China had developed into a nation strong enough to contribute scientifically to Africa (非洲). It was then in the position to provide medical assistance to some countries in that continent.

It is also estimated that only about 5% of chinese characters are pictograms. Most are 形声字 phonosemantic compounds where part of the character indicates meaning and another part suggests pronunciation.
