1900 CE

It was a new century. 纪业 Jiye, the materal great-grandfather of 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan, and father of 纪经灶 Ji Jingzao， was sent to the battlefields of 天津 Tianjin. He would be wounded there and when he returned to 晋江 Jinjiang in 福建 Fujian in 1901 CE, a girl of his hometown would take pity on him. They would be married in 1908CE, the girl who had turned into a woman, would give birth to the grandfather of 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan.

Halfway across the world - in a world apart from China, as 纪业 Jiye struggled to live on the battlefield, Max Planck proposed that energy is 量子化 quantised. This would lead to the development of 量理论 Quantum Theory which would have a profound effect on the story of 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan.

Quantum Jump to the year 2024CE when 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan visited 天津 Tianjin.

The Chinese Character 汉子

The character 根 gēn means roots. Just like the character 杨 Yáng, 根 gēn also has the 木 mù tree radical. The other component 艮 gěn means stubborn but plays the phonetic part of the character.
