After having flown in to Kaohsiung, 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan took the
train to Chiayi. The photos above were taken at the 高雄车站 Kaohsiung
Station.
Chiayi serves as an important gateway to Alishan. The Alishan Forest Railway, a century old mountain climbing railway, starts here.
The Qing (during Kangxi Emperor's reign) established "Zhuluoshan"
as a defensive walled town. This marks the founding of
Chiayi. In 1787 CE, the Qianlong Emperor renamed the city
Chiayi, meaning "Praise Righteousness" in honour of its citizens'
loyalty.

嘉义是通往阿里山的重要门户。阿里山森林铁路，一条有百年历史的登山铁路，从这里开始。
清朝（康熙皇帝统治时期）建立了“朱罗山”作为防御城墙。这标志着嘉义的成立。公元1787年，乾隆皇帝将嘉 义更名为嘉义，意思是“赞美正义”，以纪念其公民的忠诚。
