Fujian (No 2) is a mountainous coastal province on China's
southeastern shore, with a deeply indented coastline and over
1,500 islands.
It is the cultural homeland of Minnan (Hokkien) culture, renowned
for UNESCO-listed Fujian Tulou (earthen communal buildings), Wuyi
Mountain (birthplace of oolong tea and a UNESCO Mixed Heritage
Site), and historic port cities like Quanzhou—a key starting point
of the ancient Maritime Silk Road . With strong linguistic,
familial, and economic ties to Taiwan, Fujian serves as a vital
bridge across the Taiwan Strait and a gateway for cross-strait
exchange.
