故事 The Story
杨丕源 Yang Piyuan made his first trip to 美国 the United States. He was there to work on a transfer of test programs for semiconductor integrated circuits (ICs) from the headquarters in Goelita, 加利福尼亚 California to the assembly plant in 槟城 Penang, 马来西亚 Malaysia.
It was an experience for 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan to drive on the right hand side of the road. Being a country that was once colonised by the British, Malaysians drive on the left.
One night in 圣地亚哥 San Diego, he accidently drove on the left lane and had a harrowing moment before he drove over the divider and back to the left. When he was on the wrong side of the road, he experienced headlights coming toward him. Fortunately, unlike the deer, he did not freeze.
In this southern city of 美国 the United States, bordering the country of 墨西哥 Mexico - he went to a strip club. This time, unlike what had happened 8 years earlier in 1984 CE, he did not rushed out from the joint. Instead, he stayed for drinks.
It was a first for him to see girls spreading the legs and displaying their glory. What was unforgettable was his colleagues and he were served drinks by an attractive waitress. She was not only cordial but friendly, too. So, it came as quite a shock to 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan when moments later she was on the ring stripping and dancing her routine.
In San Diego, he had one of the items in my bucket list struck off. Seeing whales. During high school, he was taken to other worlds by Carl Sagan and Richard Attenborough. To see orcas not just on the screen of a television was thrilling but to see them in real life was a genuine thrill.
In Santa Barbara - also in the state of 加利福尼亚 California - he booked himself a boat ride to go to the gulf to see whales not in captivity. Unfortunately, on the morning of the expedition he received a call telling him that the trip was off as there was no sighting or sign of whales.
One late evening, in the small town called Goelita, 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan was pulled over by a patrolman one night for speeding. He was driving back to the inn after dinner. When he opened my waist pouch to produce his International driving licence, the patrol officer caught sight of his strip of analgesics (painkillers). He asked what the pills were and 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan answered "Panadol" - a brand name for the popular paracetamol back in his home country, 马来西亚 Malaysia. The policeman looked puzzled. Realising quickly that the common analgesic used in 美国 the United States was aspirins, 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan explained with a slight quiver in his voice. Learning that 杨丕源 Yang Piyuan was working in a multi-national corporation in Goelita, the office let him off without a ticket.
